Disaster Nearly Struck at 10,000 Meters! Passenger Kicks Through Emergency Exit Window Panel, Attempts to Open Escape Door

An Air Batik flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kochi, India, witnessed a dramatic and shocking scene! A 36-year-old male passenger actually kicked through the emergency exit window panel at an altitude of 10,000 meters, and even attempted to forcefully open the emergency escape door, narrowly avoiding a major air disaster.

Fortunately, crew members and several passengers fought to subdue him. The plane eventually landed safely, with everyone on board escaping unharmed. This harrowing incident occurred on Wednesday night (the 6th), aboard Batik Air flight OD231.

According to international media reports, the plane was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Kochi, and most passengers were fast asleep when a sudden loud noise woke them up, plunging the cabin into panic.

An Instagram user "@ourwanderinglives" later uploaded a video from the scene, showing several passengers and crew members working together to subdue the man, securing his hands with cable ties.

The user described that at the time, an eerie noise—like air violently rushing in—echoed through the cabin, sending chills down everyone's spines.

"A passenger seated at the emergency exit broke the emergency exit window panel and even tried to open the emergency exit door."

"We heard the terrifying sound of airflow, but thanks to the airplane's design and cabin pressure, the door could not be opened. Otherwise, the consequences are unimaginable."

The user also praised the crew members and passengers for remaining calm in the crisis and acting swiftly to subdue the man, successfully preventing a tragedy.

According to Indian police investigations, the 36-year-old man involved is from Palakkad, Kerala, and currently resides in Srimulankaram.

Police indicated that the man was seated in emergency exit seat 12A, and while the plane was en route to Kochi, he suddenly lost control, first fiercely kicking the emergency exit window panel with his foot, causing it to break, then attempting to forcibly open the emergency exit door, clearly knowing his actions could endanger the aircraft and the lives of everyone on board.

Crew members and several passengers immediately rushed to stop him, but the man fiercely resisted, pushing, shoving, and threatening those who intervened, causing chaos in the cabin. After a struggle, everyone finally managed to hold him down.

The plane eventually landed safely at Kochi International Airport at around 11:10 PM that night. Personnel from India’s Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) boarded immediately to arrest the man, handing him over to Nedumbassery police for investigation.

Police stated that preliminary investigations showed the man had not consumed alcohol nor displayed obvious psychological abnormalities at the time of the incident, but the actual motive is still pending further investigation.

The police are investigating the case under local provisions of the Aircraft Act of 1934 for endangering aircraft and passenger safety, the Indian Penal Code for criminal intimidation, and the Kerala Police Act of 2011 for endangering public safety, while also investigating the suspect’s background, travel record, and motive to determine whether this mid-air scare involved deliberate intent.

The suspect will later be brought before the court, and the case remains under further investigation.
