(Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st) Japanese Ambassador to Brunei, Yukita Yutaka, recently presented the Order of the Rising Sun on behalf of the Japanese government to former Brunei Ambassador to Japan, Pengiran Idris, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to promoting Japan-Brunei bilateral relations.
The award ceremony was held at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence in Brunei. During the ceremony, Ambassador Yukita personally decorated Pengiran Idris with the medal and expressed his gratitude for Idris’s active efforts in deepening Japan-Brunei relations during his diplomatic tenure.
The Order of the Rising Sun, established in 1875, is Japan’s earliest national honor. It is awarded exclusively to individuals, both domestic and international, who have made exceptional contributions to Japan in their respective fields.
Pengiran Idris is the most senior former Brunei ambassador to Japan, serving from 1987 to 1996. During his nine-year tenure, he actively facilitated frequent high-level exchanges between the two countries, laying a solid foundation for stable Japan-Brunei diplomatic relations.
During this period, he also played a key role in assisting Royal Brunei Airlines in launching regular flights between Brunei and Japan. In addition, he promoted deeper ties between the Brunei Royal Family and the Japanese Imperial Family, fostering long-term royal friendship.
