(Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st) The Brunei Narcotics Control Bureau (BKN) carried out a special anti-drug operation codenamed “Operasi Tokek” (Lizard Operation) from June 29 to July 14, successfully arresting 35 individuals suspected of drug-related activities and dismantling a large drug trafficking syndicate.

Those arrested include 25 Bruneian citizens, nine permanent residents, and one foreign national, aged between 17 and 59. The arrests mainly took place in Brunei-Muara District and Belait District, with a focus on Kampong Katok Nasingngol Road.

During the operation, the Narcotics Bureau seized approximately 38.67 grams of syabu (methamphetamine), 9.2 grams of ganja (marijuana), a small amount of ecstasy, and five Erimin pills. Suspicious drug trafficking funds totaling 1,156 Brunei dollars and 2 Singapore dollars were confiscated, along with a vehicle used for drug packaging and consumption.

Investigations revealed that the syndicate was led by a 27-year-old local man, who allegedly recruited several individuals (including minors) to assist with drug smuggling and distribution. Of particular concern is that members of one family were collectively involved, with each individual playing a different role; some reportedly misused government welfare funds to finance drug transactions.

During the operation, two suspects were arrested at the Sungai Tujoh checkpoint in Belait District while attempting to smuggle drugs into the country. They are currently being investigated under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, while another four suspects are being investigated under Section 3A of the same act for possession with intent to distribute.

The Narcotics Bureau emphasized that this “Lizard Operation” reflects the agency’s unwavering determination to combat drug crimes in the Jalan Nasingngol area. The bureau will continue to strengthen enforcement to ensure community safety and public well-being.
