Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar stated that as India will still be celebrating Deepavali during the 47th ASEAN Summit, the country's Prime Minister Modi will participate in the summit online.
He posted on Facebook today (23rd) saying that he received a call from Modi last night, during which he was informed of this matter.
"I respect his decision and wish him and all the Indian people a happy Deepavali."
Anwar said he and Modi also discussed measures to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries to a more strategic and comprehensive level.
He emphasized that India remains an important partner for Malaysia in trade and investment, and that both countries have close cooperation in technology, education, and regional security fields.
"Malaysia will continue to be committed to strengthening Malaysia-India relations and enhancing cooperation between ASEAN and India to create a more peaceful and prosperous region."
The 47th ASEAN Summit will be held from October 26th to 28th, during which the top leaders of all 10 ASEAN countries will be present, along with major dialogue partners including the United States, China, Japan, and India.
