Thailand to Enter Winter Season, Bangkok’s Lowest Temperature to Reach 18°C

The Thai Meteorological Department has announced that Thailand will officially enter the winter season on the 23rd, about a week later than in previous years.

According to The Nation, cold weather will first appear in the northern and northeastern regions of Thailand, and will gradually spread to the central and eastern regions. The southern region will continue to experience rainfall, with some areas seeing heavy to very heavy rain.

The arrival of winter in Thailand means temperatures in high-altitude areas will continue to drop, prevailing winds will be from the northeast or east, and rainfall will be significantly reduced.

Sujatha, secretary and spokesperson of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, said that the winter season does not mean all regions will immediately become cold.

The coldest period is expected to be between mid-December and early February next year, with an average minimum temperature of around 21 to 22°C.

In highlands and mountainous areas of the north and northeast, including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Loei, Nakhon Phanom, and Sakon Nakhon, temperatures can sometimes drop to 7-8°C, and frost may occur.

The minimum temperature in Bangkok and its surrounding areas is expected to be around 18-20°C.

Meanwhile, in the southern region—especially along the Gulf of Thailand coast—rain will continue frequently. Low pressure systems and tropical cyclones may bring heavy rainfall, potentially causing flash floods, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
