(Kuala Lumpur, 15th) Malaysia is not only actively promoting green transformation domestically but also extending its efforts to the entire Southeast Asia region. It will continue to advocate for sustainable policies, technologies, and practices beneficial to this region.

Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi pointed out that the human resources in the renewable energy sector are one of the key pillars to achieving green transformation.

“In 2019, Malaysia employed 54,300 people in the solar industry, becoming the ASEAN country with the highest number of solar photovoltaic (PV) employment. With the fifth phase of the Large Solar Scale program (LSS5) expected to launch by 2025, this number is anticipated to continue growing.”

He stated this while delivering an online keynote speech at the 5th German-Malaysian Business Forum today.

He noted that skilled labor is crucial to supporting the development of Malaysia’s renewable energy sector, especially in the fields of solar and hydroelectric power where significant progress has been made.

“As we continue to expand our renewable energy capacity, our workforce will always be at the core of this transformation.”

Nik Nazmi said Malaysia has become a significant international hub for photovoltaic component manufacturing, with 6 out of the top 10 global solar photovoltaic companies having operational bases in Malaysia.

He added that Malaysia is situated within the “sun belt,” possessing abundant solar resources, making it an ideal location for solar power generation.

He said that clear and ambitious policies, such as the implementation of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), make advancements in this area possible.

He pointed out that this roadmap will also serve as the key blueprint for Malaysia’s energy transition over the coming decades.
