(Bandar Seri Begawan, 23rd) Brunei is currently in the monsoon transition period, a phase which usually lasts until November 2025.
As of 11am local time yesterday, Tropical Storm “Fung-shen” has intensified into a Severe Tropical Storm “Fung-shen”, located at latitude 17.1°N, longitude 110.4°E, approximately 1,440 kilometers from Brunei.
The Severe Tropical Storm “Fung-shen” is expected to move southwestward, away from our country.
However, the Severe Tropical Storm “Fung-shen” is expected to indirectly affect our country’s weather conditions. Active weather is forecasted to occur from October 22 to October 25, 2025 (Saturday).
Occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are expected to affect parts of the country, with wind speeds reaching up to 50 km/h during or close to periods of heavy rain.
Sea conditions are generally slight to moderate, with wave heights between 0.7 meters and 1.4 meters.
Therefore, the Brunei Meteorological Department advises the public to take early measures in preparation for the expected active weather event. During periods of prolonged heavy rain and high tides, the risks of flash floods are greater in low-lying areas, flood-prone regions, and near river banks.
Landslides and fallen trees may also occur during heavy rain and strong winds. Moderate sea conditions can be hazardous for small vessel operations.
The public, road drivers, and mariners are advised to always pay attention to the latest weather forecasts, warnings, and alerts issued by the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) and to make appropriate plans to ensure everyone’s safety.
The Brunei Meteorological Department will continue to monitor weather conditions and issue warnings and alerts when necessary.
You can more easily obtain the latest weather information, warnings, and alerts via the BDMD mobile application Brunei WX, since you will immediately receive information, warnings, and alerts once the latest notices are released.
In addition, you can also obtain the latest weather updates by contacting the Duty Weather Forecaster at the Weather Forecast Centre, calling the weather hotline 114, visiting the website "www.met.gov.bn," or through the Facebook page "@bruneiweather," Instagram "@brunei.weather," as well as the Telegram and Whatsapp channel "Brunei Weather."
