Venezuela Earthquake Leaves 920 Dead, UN Says Over 50,000 Missing

Jorge, Chairman of the Venezuelan National Assembly, stated on the 26th that the death toll from the earthquake in Venezuela has risen to 920.

He said that 172 people are still trapped under rubble, and 3,007 people have been displaced by the disaster. In addition, the earthquake has damaged 383 buildings, including 13 hospitals and 25 commercial centers. Another 1,002 various infrastructure facilities have suffered varying degrees of damage.

In the hardest-hit area of La Guaira state, a young man is rushed to hospital after being rescued from the rubble by rescuers.
Meanwhile, on the 26th, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Fletcher pointed out that more than 50,000 people remain missing after the earthquake in Venezuela.

However, this data has not yet been officially confirmed by the Venezuelan government.

A satellite image released by Vantor on the 26th shows extensive building collapses in Caraballeda, La Guaira state.
Fletcher told AFP in an interview: "(In the Venezuela earthquake) more than 50,000 people are missing... so the task of clearing the rubble is extremely arduous."

According to data released by a Venezuelan grassroots website where citizens report information on people missing due to the earthquake, more than 53,000 remain unaccounted for.
