(Sibu, 26th) In celebration of World Earth Day, Sinaran Pelangi School has launched a series of meaningful activities aimed at cultivating students’ environmental awareness and encouraging them to develop sustainable living habits.
One of the highlights of this celebration is the 'Interclass Recycling Competition,' which will run from April through October. At the end of each month, students can bring recyclable items from home to school, participate in the school-wide effort to reduce waste, and promote responsible recycling practices. By the end of October, the class with the highest cumulative recycled quantity will be crowned the champion.
All recyclable items collected by the school each month will be handed over to its long-term partner, 'Kawan Bumi Sdn Bhd.' This company is working hand-in-hand with Sinaran Pelangi School to advance environmental initiatives, demonstrating the school’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
To combine education and fun, the school is also hosting an Earth Day quiz competition on recycling knowledge and a creative eco-friendly fashion competition. Students use recycled materials to design clothing, creatively and imaginatively exploring environmental themes while learning the importance of reuse and recycling.
In addition, students have worked together with the 'Green Action Squad' led by Principal Cheng Shi Juan to produce an environmental awareness video. The video aims to encourage classmates and parents to recognize the significance of caring for the environment through everyday actions.
This recycling initiative is strongly supported by Chairperson Lyu Shiyun, who firmly believes that environmental education should start from an early age. She stated that by cultivating environmental awareness early, children can grow up loving the environment and develop a sense of responsibility to care for the Earth, marking a hopeful new beginning.
