(Kuching, 24th) — The Sarawak government is calling on a total of 68,834 registered union members in Sarawak to apply for the 'Madani Workers Card' as soon as possible. This initiative, benefiting workers, was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on May 1st.
According to TVS News reports, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, stated that this workers card symbolizes the federal government’s recognition of the contributions made by workers nationwide, including those in Sarawak, towards the nation’s overall development.
He said, "The Madani Workers Card is a strategic platform of collaboration between the government and the private sector, through which workers will receive more targeted benefits and support."
"We encourage more workers, especially union members, to apply for this Workers Card. This initiative, jointly launched by the Prime Minister and Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, aims to enhance workers’ welfare and protection."
He made the above call during a press conference after officiating at the opening ceremony of the 2025 National Labour Movement Seminar yesterday morning.
Gerawat pointed out that the Madani Workers Card offers multiple benefits, including special discounts of up to 30% on basic goods and services at more than 100 participating companies nationwide, to ease workers’ cost of living.
In addition, cardholders can enjoy subsidies for training and skills enhancement courses, as well as receive more comprehensive social welfare and social protection support.
