(Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st) Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) recently held a graduation and award ceremony for the seventh batch of BIBD SEED programme participants, marking another important step in the bank’s efforts to promote local entrepreneurship and empower SME development.
This event also highlights the bank’s strong commitment to the pillar of "Responsible Entrepreneurship" under its Sustainable Development Framework, dedicated to cultivating an ethical, inclusive, and resilient group of entrepreneurs to contribute to the nation’s long-term prosperity.
The guest of honour for the event was Juharzlan Shah, Acting Head of Government Relations & Special Projects at BIBD.
In his speech, Juharzlan Shah expressed BIBD’s great honour to witness the successful graduation of the seventh batch of participants embarking on their entrepreneurial journey. He pointed out that the SEED programme is not just a training initiative, but more importantly a project to build confidence, enhance resilience, and foster a clear entrepreneurial mission.
"We believe that an entrepreneur’s success is not just dependent on financial support, but relies even more on a well-developed ecosystem, especially one that creates an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs to realize their economic potential and contributions to the nation."
The programme lasts six months, during which participants receive systematic training and one-on-one mentorship. From business ideation and management to market expansion, they gain holistic mastery of the core competencies needed for entrepreneurship. Upon graduation, participants present their business proposals and have the opportunity to apply for startup funds to put their business plans into practice.
This year, a total of 15 participants from diverse backgrounds, including government agencies and the public, completed the course, fully reflecting SEED’s commitment to equal opportunities and inclusivity.
The programme commenced in May 2025 through a rigorous selection process and bootcamp. During the programme, participants not only gained practical business skills, but were also deeply inspired in terms of personal growth, responsibility, and family values.
Through the BIBD SEED Programme, participants can improve their family’s economic situation and also pass on the spirit of diligence, perseverance, and resilience within their families.
