(Bandar Seri Begawan, 10th) Shi Zhongjun, Secretary-General of the China-ASEAN Centre, expressed his sincere thanks to the Brunei Tourism Development Department under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and the China-ASEAN Centre for jointly organizing the "2025 ASEAN Member States Chinese Language Training and Capacity Building Workshop," an activity of significant importance.
He also thanked all ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat for their active participation, and extended heartfelt gratitude to all partners who have long supported ASEAN-China tourism cooperation and jointly promoted regional tourism development.
He pointed out that tourism has always been an important bridge connecting the peoples of ASEAN and China. The two sides share traditions, diverse cultures, and beautiful natural scenery, attracting millions of tourists to visit each other every year. In 2024, the two-way tourist exchanges between ASEAN and China have already exceeded 15 million, and this encouraging recovery momentum fully demonstrates the resilience and potential of bilateral tourism cooperation.
Shi Zhongjun emphasized that this also highlights the importance of enhancing the professionalism of ASEAN tourism practitioners, in order to better meet the new opportunities and demands brought about by the deepening cooperation with China.
Shi Zhongjun made these remarks yesterday at the opening ceremony of the "2025 ASEAN Member States Chinese Language Training and Capacity Building Workshop" held in Brunei.
He stated that 2025 is the "ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges," and that this workshop, as one of the flagship projects of the China-ASEAN Centre, is of profound significance.
Representatives from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand, along with online participants from other ASEAN member states, will participate together in this training.
Over the next two days, trainees will not only systematically study practical Chinese communication skills, but will also gain a deeper understanding of the development trends of the Chinese tourism market and the consumption preferences of Chinese tourists. The workshop also arranges field visits, allowing trainees to experience Brunei’s unique natural charms and ecological beauty first-hand.
Shi Zhongjun pointed out that it is especially meaningful to host this workshop in Brunei. Brunei possesses a rich cultural heritage and beautiful ecological resources, always adheres to the concept of sustainable development, and actively promotes a community-based tourism development model. It is one of the exemplary models of inclusive growth jointly achieved by ASEAN and China. Brunei’s active participation within the China-ASEAN cooperation framework has also laid a solid foundation for people-to-people exchanges between the two sides.
He emphasized that China-ASEAN relations are entering a new stage of deepening cooperation and facing unprecedented development opportunities. The two sides share a common mission to promote regional economic recovery, enhance people-to-people connectivity, and foster the sustainable development of tourism.
The China-ASEAN Centre will continue to serve as a bridge and partner, working hand in hand with all ASEAN member states and relevant stakeholders to further expand areas of cooperation and ensure that bilateral cooperation remains steady, resilient, and future-oriented.
