(Serian, 11th) Six agricultural and farm road projects in the Bukit Semuja area have been fully completed, with a total value exceeding RM2.7 million, further strengthening transportation connectivity for farmers in certain parts of the constituency.
Bukit Semuja Assemblyman John Ilus stated that these projects were implemented by the Sarawak government through the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) program, aimed at improving traffic conditions in agricultural areas.
He said that the upgraded and newly constructed roads will enable farmers to more efficiently transport heavy agricultural products such as palm oil, rubber, and fruits to processing centers and buyers.
The completed projects include: Kampung Triboh Nangga Triboh area agricultural road upgrading project (RM423,510), Kampung Rasau Senaru area agricultural road upgrading project (RM168,620), as well as Kampung Rasau Sireal area agricultural road upgrading project (RM168,450).
In addition, upgrading works for agricultural roads in the Kampung Merian Bedup Sungai Matu and Sungai Saku Matu areas (RM622,410), and the Sungai Buas Dabung Lemangkan area agricultural road upgrading project (RM425,473) have also been completed.
The projects also include: Kampung Tebakang Melayu Manju/Endura area new agricultural road construction project (RM544,129), as well as the new flexible pavement pedestrian walkway construction from Kampung Sola Dayak junction to Kampung Keran Empani junction (RM416,810).
John pointed out that well-developed farm roads relate not only to convenience of transportation but also help reduce transportation costs and minimize post-harvest losses caused by delivery delays.
He said: "A more comprehensive rural transport network will also encourage families to develop idle land, expand production scale, and make the transition from subsistence agriculture to profitable modern agribusiness."
Agricultural and farm roads remain important pillars of livelihood, cultural heritage, and the rural economy for the Bidayuh community.
Agriculture not only provides food security, but also delivers cash income through crops such as rice, pepper, and rubber; while well-developed farm roads connect remote agricultural land with markets, processing facilities, and buyers.
