(Miri, 11th) The President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong), Dato' Lim Kah Chuan, recently visited Miri accompanied by his wife Datin Chong Xue Fang, Secretary-General Lu Yong Han, and President's Assistant cum Director of China Liaison Office (Preparatory) Chen Yong Qiang. They were warmly received by President of the Miri Chinese Associations Federation, Hsu Sin Lung, together with Vice Presidents Ye Nai Wang, Huang Ping Nan, Fang Xiao Sheng, Yang Hong Lin, Secretary-General Hong Li Chuan, and Treasurer Wu Wen Qiong, who also accompanied Dato' Lim Kah Chuan to visit several famous attractions in Miri to learn about the city's local culture and development.
During the visit, Hsu Sin Lung, representing the Miri Chinese Association, formally handed over the invitation letter for the 2026 Oil City Chinese Cultural Festival Gala and its opening ceremony to Dato' Lim Kah Chuan, sincerely inviting the leadership to attend and participate in the grand cultural event together.
Hsu Sin Lung expressed that although the President's visit to Miri lasted just one day, its significance was profound. It not only strengthened the bond between Malaysia Huazong and Miri Chinese Association, but also provided both parties the opportunity to further exchange on the local development of the Chinese associations, cultural heritage, and the opportunities and challenges facing the Chinese community in the future.
He said that Miri, as one of Sarawak’s important cities, possesses a rich and diverse history, humanities, and cultural resources. The Chinese associations have long played a vital role in promoting Chinese cultural heritage, fostering community unity, and enhancing exchanges among different ethnic groups.
"It was an honor for us to host President Dato' Lim Kah Chuan and his entourage in Miri and accompany them to visit local attractions. Through these on-the-ground visits, we hope the President can gain deeper understanding of Miri’s development and local Chinese community."
Hsu Sin Lung pointed out that the 2026 Oil City Chinese Cultural Festival is one of this year’s major events to promote the inheritance and spread of Chinese culture in Miri. The opening ceremony will be combined with the lighting ceremony of the “Cheng·Qi” Hundred Surnames Monument, symbolizing the passing of Chinese culture from generation to generation.
He stated that the cultural festival not only belongs to the Chinese community, but is also hoped to become a platform for people of all ethnic groups to participate in, understand, and appreciate Chinese culture, fostering social interaction and unity through cultural activities.
"We sincerely invite the Malaysia Huazong and Chinese association leaders from all regions to come to Miri and witness this important moment with us. Culture needs to be passed on, and it also needs everyone’s participation and support, so that traditional culture can continue to shine in the new era.”
He emphasized that the Miri Chinese Association will, in the future, continue strengthening ties with Malaysia Huazong and Chinese associations nationwide, uniting the strength of the Chinese community, and jointly promoting cultural heritage, community development, and association work, contributing actively to social harmony and national development.
