(Vietnam, 12th) Singapore and Vietnam are cooperating under five key pillars and eleven areas, further strengthening their bilateral economic partnership.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Trade and Industry on Friday (October 10), Minister for Manpower Dr. Tan See Leng, who oversees energy and technology affairs, and Vietnamese Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc, co-chaired the 19th Singapore-Vietnam Connectivity Ministerial Meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam, on the same day.
This meeting was the first ministerial meeting convened since the two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March this year, following the visit by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, to Singapore.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry stated that ministers from both countries affirmed the strong cooperation in bilateral trade across the five pillars and eleven areas during the meeting. These cooperative projects highlight the economic ties between Singapore and Vietnam and reflect Singaporean companies’ keen interest in Vietnam’s economic growth. This is also evident from Singapore becoming Vietnam's second largest cumulative foreign investor in 2024.
The two countries also agreed to implement the "Singapore-Vietnam Innovation Talent Exchange Programme" (ITX), which has already attracted interest from 30 companies and 53 individuals from the fields of technology, biomedical technology, banking and finance, as well as tertiary students.
In addition, the meeting witnessed progress in cooperation in the areas of energy, sustainability, and agricultural trade.
Dr. Tan See Leng said: "Against the backdrop of an uncertain global economic environment, the Singapore-Vietnam Connectivity Ministerial Meeting demonstrates the determination to deepen the bilateral economic partnership. For Singaporean businesses and talent, Vietnam remains an attractive market, while Vietnamese enterprises continue to see Singapore as a reliable regional partner."
