(Miri, 10th) Sarawak Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah, said that the conclusion of the 2026 Borneo International Robotics Championship not only marks the end of the competition, but is also a celebration of intelligence, perseverance, and human potential.
He pointed out that over the past few days, young people from Malaysia and around the world not only participated as contestants but also interacted and collaborated as innovative partners, turning the event into an international platform that gathers creativity and friendship.
He made these remarks in a speech delivered last night at the closing ceremony and awards dinner of the "2026 Borneo International Robotics Championship" held in the banquet hall on the 7th floor of the Meritz Hotel, Miri. As he was unable to attend, his speech was delivered by Dr. Teo Liang Zhang, Director of Innovation at the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, on his behalf.
He said this year’s competition attracted participants from countries and regions including Myanmar, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Macau, Mexico, Vietnam, Laos, South Korea, and Thailand. This convergence of diverse cultures not only elevated the level of competition but also made the overall experience more profound and unforgettable.
He noted that during the competition, not only did they witness robots completing a variety of tasks, but also the realization of creativity, the transformation of failure into breakthrough, and the spirit of team cooperation that transcended borders. All this demonstrates that "the future is here" and is being shaped by the younger generation.
He pointed out that the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development fully supports this event because of a deep belief in the potential of youth to drive the "Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030." The facts have proven that young people are not waiting for the future—they are building it.
He congratulated all the winners, noting that their success reflects discipline, resilience, and excellence. At the same time, he encouraged those who did not win not to measure their worth by medals, but to take pride in their courage to participate, their attitude towards learning, and their perseverance, because in the field of innovation, every setback is the starting point to becoming stronger.
He said that success is the accumulation of daily efforts, and every participant has put in and achieved results.
He thanked the international participants not only for joining the competition but also for sharing their cultures and ideas, forging a precious and lasting bond with Sarawak.
In addition, he also expressed his gratitude to SMK Chung Hua Miri, the organizing committee, judges, teachers, mentors, as well as all partners and sponsors for their contributions in making the event a success.
He said as the competition comes to a successful end, we should remember an important belief: "Innovation does not end here, but begins from here," and will be carried forward through every idea, every challenge, and every persistent dream.
He announced the official closing of the "2026 Borneo International Robotics Championship" and looked forward to the continuous flourishing of the spirit of innovation in Sarawak, Malaysia, and around the globe.
