Malaysian artist Kuan Teik Fai is realizing his dream of becoming a director and is expected to begin shooting his directorial debut, 'Torn Script', in the second half of next year.
‘Torn Script’ centers on women from three different cities—Shanghai, Taipei, and Kuala Lumpur—and from three different eras. Through their individual experiences, the film reveals the pain and trauma caused by sexual assault and harassment.
At a press conference on Friday morning, Kuan Teik Fai said that this project, which has been in preparation for many years, is not only his first time directing a film in his 30-year career, but is also a work inspired by real-life events, full of conscience and outcry.
In an interview with the media, he disclosed that the production budget for the film is around 15 million RMB (approximately 8.87 million MYR), with shooting expected to officially begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, and location filming will take place in China, Taipei, and Malaysia.
Kuan Teik Fai stated that the project is still in the early preparation stage and the cast has not yet been finalized. However, he has already started to approach actors from Taiwan and China, while for Malaysia he tends to prefer newcomers or suitable candidates recommended by friends.
“I have a bit of ambition. I hope to find actors aged between 18 and 28 who can portray different age groups naturally and convincingly.”
Kuan Teik Fai's directorial debut has also received strong support from friends in the industry at home and abroad, including renowned Chinese film professional Han Xiaofei, Taiwanese film score master Hou Chih-chien, and famous Hong Kong actress Yvonne Yung.
During the press conference, Kuan Teik Fai also connected with Yvonne Yung via video call and sincerely invited her to be the producer of 'Torn Script.' Yvonne responded with a smile: “If there is someone more suitable, you should find them, but I will always be your strongest supporter.”
