(Bandar Seri Begawan, 18th) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei departed yesterday for Kazan, Russian Federation, to attend the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit held from June 17 to 18, 2026.
Accompanying His Majesty on this visit is his son and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Mateen.
Upon arrival at Kazan International Airport, His Majesty was received by Rustam Minnikhanov, the leader of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, Brunei’s Ambassador to Russia, Pengiran Muhammad Husaini, was also present to welcome the Sultan.
Kazan is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, located at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers, and is an important economic, cultural, and educational center in Russia.
The city is often known as Russia’s “third capital,” and is renowned for its multicultural integration, particularly reflecting the long-term coexistence and exchange between Orthodox Christian and Islamic cultures, making it one of Russia’s most representative historical and cultural cities.
