(BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 23rd) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei will be departing for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits to be held from October 26 to 28, 2025.
Malaysia, as this year's rotating ASEAN chair, will be hosting this summit. The summit will bring together heads of state and government from ASEAN, Timor-Leste, and dialogue partner countries to discuss strengthening ASEAN solidarity, enhancing strategic mutual trust among countries, promoting increased commitments to intra-ASEAN trade and investment, and ensuring inclusiveness and sustainability are emphasized in community development efforts.
At the 46th ASEAN Summit held earlier this year, leaders adopted the "Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045: Our Common Future", which outlines ASEAN's direction and future for the next two decades, striving to build a resilient, innovative, dynamic, and people-centered ASEAN community by 2045, and to make ASEAN the center of growth in the Indo-Pacific region.
Another significant outcome is that leaders agreed to admit Timor-Leste as the 11th ASEAN member state at the 47th ASEAN Summit.
This year's ASEAN chairmanship theme is "Inclusion and Sustainability", emphasizing collective progress and ensuring no one is left behind. This highlights ASEAN's commitment to strengthening regional peace, stability, and prosperity within an inclusive, sustainable, and forward-looking framework.
