(Bandar Seri Begawan, 4th) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei emphasized that the University of Technology Brunei (UTB) should not only pursue academic excellence but also strengthen the teaching facilities for both faculty and students.
His Majesty noted that UTB has demonstrated a strong culture of innovation through initiatives such as the Crown Prince CIPTA Creative Competition. Over the past twenty years, this competition has spawned creative ideas that are influential and relevant globally.
His Majesty stressed that future innovations must focus on addressing global challenges through artificial intelligence (AI), climate technology, and deep technology—fields that can drive sustainable development and reshape industries.
"I hope all parties will work together to ensure that the culture of innovation fosters sustainable economic development and creates job opportunities for local graduates."
His Majesty delivered these remarks yesterday at the 13th convocation ceremony of UTB, held at the International Convention Centre.
The Sultan encouraged graduates to embrace advancements in technology and artificial intelligence, to explore the digital and creative industries, helping to realize national economic diversification and open up entrepreneurship opportunities.
His Majesty congratulated the university for its international achievements, including being listed for the first time in the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and ranking ninth in the ASEAN region for engineering and technology in the 2026 QS World University Rankings.
He stated that these milestones are in line with the vision of "Brunei Vision 2035" and the "Malay Islamic Monarchy" (MIB) philosophy.
His Majesty further praised UTB for its collaborations with industry partners, including projects such as solar power plants, electric vehicles and EV charging stations, as well as innovation labs like the Huawei ICT Academy and CISCO Networking Academy.
He noted that these collaborations have enhanced UTB's research, development, and innovation capabilities, further solidifying its position as a hub of innovation.
