BINTULU: The Sarawak government will continue to support research in the fields of social sciences and humanities to deepen understanding of the lives of the state’s diverse ethnic communities.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said such research can explore customs, culture, and traditional practices in greater depth, including the use of herbs by indigenous communities.
“This research is important for understanding cultural heritage, and universities such as Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPM) play a major role in this effort,” he said, as reported by TVS.
He said this when officiating at the 4th International Conference on Science, Social Sciences and Humanities (ICOSSH) here today (Aug 12).
Abdul Karim also cited the publication of a book on traditional Kelabit herbs as an example of valuable research output that should be continued.
“This is so that such knowledge can be documented and preserved for the benefit of future generations,” he added.
