Two Development Proposals Approved, Sports and Medical Services in Sibu to be Enhanced

(Kuching, 8th) With the approval of two development proposals, sports facilities and healthcare services in Sibu province will be upgraded.

It is reported that these two proposals are the upgrading and renovation of the Sibu Stadium and the addition of 10 dialysis machines at Sibu Hospital.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari said that the proposal to upgrade the Sibu Stadium was submitted by Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment and Member of Parliament for Kuala Rajang, Datuk Len Talif.

He said that the addition of 10 dialysis machines at Sibu Hospital will improve treatment facilities, benefiting patients who need such services.

“Therefore, we can add 10 dialysis machines at Sibu Hospital.” 

Abang Johari made the above statement today while attending the launch of the “Sarawak Caring” (SKS) 2026 Programme in Sibu province held there.

Another development is that Abang Johari said the Tanjung Mani Airport expansion plan aims to allow ATR aircraft to take off and land, which is expected to bring more opportunities for tourism and economic development to the region.

He also emphasized the potential of mangrove carbon trading in Sarekei, believing that it could become a new source of revenue.

He pointed out that the mangrove ecosystem has the ability to store carbon long-term, thus creating value for Sarawak in the carbon trading market.

“According to ecological science, land that can store carbon long-term is mangrove. Therefore, we have the largest mangrove national park in Malaysia.” 

“Just imagine how much carbon we can store. Foreigners who emit carbon can buy it, while we store the carbon in the mangrove area.” 

For that reason, he said he has commissioned Len Talif to study the potential of carbon trading, including its value, so that it can be used to fund the development of Sibu province.

The event also symbolically showcased the Sarawak Basic Needs Assurance Scheme (SKAS) and Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES).
