A giant ruby weighing 11,000 carats has been discovered in Mandalay Province, Myanmar.

This is one of the largest rubies ever found in Myanmar, a country renowned for its gemstones.

In a statement on the 8th, Myanmar’s newly established military-backed government said the ruby was unearthed in the Mogok region and described it as “exceptionally large, rare, and difficult to find.”

According to a statement quoted by AFP, the ruby appears purplish red with slight yellow hues and is believed to have a very high color grade.

The Myanmar government pointed out that although the newly discovered gemstone is smaller than a 21,450-carat ruby found in the same area in 1996, the new stone is even more valuable due to its “outstanding color, clarity, and overall quality.”

Rubies from Mogok are among the world’s most expensive gemstones, with the finest quality stones selling for millions of dollars.
