Belarusian Model Lured to Northern Myanmar Scam Park, Reportedly Had Organs Harvested and Cremated Due to 'Poor Performance'

According to reports from The Sun and Daily Mail, a 27-year-old woman from Belarus was attracted by a high-paying modeling job offer online, traveled to Thailand to apply, but ultimately fell into the hands of a scam syndicate in northern Myanmar. She is reportedly believed to have had her organs harvested and was later cremated.

British media reported that the 27-year-old woman, Vera, was once a contestant on the Belarusian version of The Voice. She recently found an online advertisement recruiting part-time models with high salaries and flew to Bangkok, Thailand in mid-September. Travel records show that she was taken to Yangon, Myanmar on September 20, after which she fell under the control of the scam compound.

Sources said that Vera was forced to sign a contract to work in the scam park, with her task being to gain the trust of foreigners on dating websites, simulate romantic relationships, and then lure them to invest in cryptocurrency or place large bets in virtual casinos, ultimately scamming them out of their money. As fewer and fewer people fell for the scams, many inside the compound struggled to meet targets and could only ask their families to pay hefty ransoms to regain their freedom.

Vera's mother said that Vera had lost all contact since October 4. The family later received messages stating that if they wanted to retrieve her body for burial, they would have to pay a ransom of $500,000 (about 2.11 million Malaysian ringgit). The family refused to pay. A few days later, another message arrived saying Vera had been cremated. According to reports, Vera failed to reach the income targets set by the scam compound, had her organs harvested and sold, and her body was subsequently cremated.

British media said that the Belarusian Foreign Ministry recently confirmed that Myanmar authorities are searching for a missing Belarusian woman. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry is preparing to assist Vera's family in repatriating her ashes through official diplomatic channels.
