(United States, 17th) U.S. President Trump says that Iran wishes to negotiate the de-escalation of conflict with Israel. The two sides have been exchanging fire for the fourth consecutive day.
When asked about reports regarding Iran's desire to resolve the tensions, Trump responded, "Yes," and Bloomberg quoted him saying: "They want to talk, but they should have done so earlier."
During a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G7 leaders' summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, on Monday (June 16), Trump said when asked whether the U.S. would further military involvement, that he was unwilling to discuss the matter. "It's painful for both sides, but I would say that Iran is not in an advantageous position in this war."
Sources told Reuters that Tehran has urged Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia to pressure Trump to leverage his influence over Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to push for an immediate ceasefire.
Two Iranian sources and three regional sources said that in return, Iran would show flexibility in nuclear negotiations.
According to Iranian official media, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi told four European foreign ministers that Iran is serious about diplomacy, but the current focus is on addressing aggression. Israel says its goal is to eliminate Tehran's capability to develop nuclear weapons.
Araghchi wrote on social media platform X: "If President Trump is sincere about diplomacy and intends to stop this war, the next move will be significant."
"Israel must cease its aggression, and if Israel does not completely stop its military aggression against us, we will continue to retaliate. Washington can silence the likes of Netanyahu with just a phone call."
