This week, Philippine President Marcos Jr. launched a series of domestic inspections and international economic activities focused on infrastructure, economic development, healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, and attracting foreign investment, all aimed at advancing the country’s long-term development goals.
From inspecting local infrastructure projects to traveling to Singapore to showcase the Philippines’ investment potential to international investors, Marcos Jr.’s weekly schedule demonstrates the government’s dual-track strategy of promoting domestic development while strengthening international cooperation and economic partnerships.
Driving Regional Development
At the start of the week, Marcos Jr. visited Camiguin Province, with a particular focus on regional development and the implementation of government services.
He inspected the Mahinog Benoni Port’s operations building worth PHP 171.3 million, and presided over the inauguration of the Benoni Port’s Light Ship Landing Facility valued at PHP 86.9 million.
The government stated that modern port facilities help improve transportation efficiency in island regions, boost commerce, tourism, and facilitate the movement of people and goods.
For island provinces whose economies mainly rely on tourism, agriculture, and fisheries, port infrastructure is considered a key investment to drive local economic growth.
Ensuring Development Benefits Communities
Marcos Jr. then presided over the launch ceremony of the “Benefitting Every Town” project in Camiguin, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring that development programs reach grassroots communities.
He also visited the Camiguin General Hospital to learn about improvements in medical services and facilities, and stressed the importance of strengthening the public healthcare system.
Investing in Growth Corridors
Marcos Jr. directed the acceleration of the Balog-Balog Multipurpose Project Phase II in San Jose, Tarlac Province, with a total value of PHP 20.54 billion.
This irrigation project is expected to enhance water resource management in Central Luzon and further support agricultural production.
He also inspected the National Academy of Sports facilities inside the New Clark City Sports Complex and interacted with young athletes from various sports, highlighting the government’s support in nurturing Filipino student-athletes.
Advancing Clean Energy
Marcos Jr. later traveled to Nueva Ecija Province along with First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos to jointly launch Phase I of the Terra Solar project.
This initiative is touted as one of the world’s largest integrated solar and battery energy storage facilities, symbolizing an important milestone in the Philippines' push for renewable energy transformation.
The government pointed out that large-scale solar development programs help diversify energy sources and strengthen strategic energy infrastructure through government–private sector partnerships.
Promoting Investment in Singapore
After concluding his domestic agenda, Marcos Jr. traveled to Singapore for a working visit aimed at strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
He met with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, reaffirming the continued deepening of relations between the two countries and discussing areas of mutual cooperation.
During the trip, Marcos Jr. presented the Philippines’ investment opportunities to local business leaders, highlighting infrastructure development, economic reforms, and the potential of priority industries to attract more foreign investment.
He also met with representatives from Singtel Group and ABC Impact to discuss ongoing and expansion plans for their businesses in the Philippines.
Additionally, he attended the Indo-Pacific Investors Meeting hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, and participated in a Milken Institute roundtable to discuss investment, innovation, and regional economic growth.
Emphasizing Maritime Talent Development
At the end of the week, Marcos Jr. traveled to Zambales Province to attend the 2026 graduation ceremony for the Salighirang class at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy.
He recognized the contribution of Filipino seafarers to the national economy, and emphasized the importance of maritime education in maintaining the Philippines’ position as a leading global supplier of seafarers.
The Presidential Palace stated that this week’s activities underscore the government’s active efforts to expand international economic cooperation while advancing local development, aiming to achieve inclusive and sustainable national growth.
