Koh Chang in Trat Province, Thailand, continues to strengthen its image as a 'sports tourism' destination, with the official launch of the 3rd 'Koh Chang Trail Run 2026.' The race will be held on September 27 at the Ban Bang Bao School in southern Koh Chang, under the theme 'Awaken Koh Chang 3 - Conquer Koh Chang.'
This trail running event aims to combine sports tourism with sustainable ecological tourism, showcasing the natural beauty of Mu Ko Chang National Park through course design and attracting both local and international runners.
At the launch ceremony, Koh Chang District Chief Wunche Somson stated that Trat Province has the potential to become an international hub for sports and nature tourism. The event can stimulate the local economy, generate income for the community, and enhance Trat’s reputation in the nature experience tourism market.
Sattaphon Senpan, representative of the Trat Provincial Office of Tourism and Sports, pointed out that the event is also one of the measures to promote Trat’s development as a 'sports city.' Especially during the green season, which is traditionally the tourism low season, the race helps attract more visitors.
This year’s event features four race categories: 55 km, 30 km, 15 km, and 8 km. Participants will pass through various natural and cultural landmarks, including Than Mayom Waterfall, Kiri Phet Waterfall, Khao Laem Viewpoint, Wat Salak Phet, and Klong Kloi Beach.
Organizers emphasized that environmental protection remains a priority for the event. Measures will be taken to reduce waste, use eco-friendly cups, and strictly comply with national park regulations.
Reportedly, last year’s race attracted 961 registered runners, with 779 finishing the event. The race is certified by international trail running organizations, including the International Trail Running Association and the UTMB Index, further attracting both domestic and international participants.
