(Bandar Seri Begawan, 24th) The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September 2025 rose by 0.03% compared to September 2024, with the food and soft drinks index rising by 0.4%. In contrast, the non-food index fell by 0.1%.
The rise in the food and soft drinks index was mainly due to fruit (3.9%), especially fresh tropical fruit; coffee, tea and cocoa (3.7%); and fish and seafood (1.7%), with a particular increase in the price of fresh shrimp.
The decrease in the non-food index was primarily driven by clothing and footwear (1.4%), miscellaneous goods and services (1.3%), especially vehicle insurance; as well as the increase in prices for jewelry, hardware, and routine home maintenance (0.7%).
Month-on-month, the CPI for September 2025 rose by 0.4%. Among this, the food and soft drinks index climbed 0.2%, while the non-food index increased by 0.5%.
The rise in the food and soft drinks index was mainly due to fish and seafood prices rising by 0.9% and soft drink prices increasing by 0.4%. The rise in the non-food index was mainly due to a 4.2% increase in clothing and footwear prices, and a 0.8% rise in transport prices.
The CPI measures changes in the price of a fixed basket of goods and services paid by consumers over a specific period, and is collected monthly.
The goods and services list in the CPI is based on average household expenditure information obtained from household expenditure surveys.
