Out-of-Stock Formula Milk on E-Commerce: New Dad Receives Cup Noodles Instead

A Singaporean ride-hailing driver, whose son regularly drinks a particular soy-based infant formula that has run out across all supermarkets in Singapore, turned to online shopping in desperation. After paying SGD 117.21 (about MYR 364) for two cans of formula, he received only one cup of chicken-flavored instant noodles, leaving him both amused and exasperated.

According to a report by 8world News, 38-year-old Mr. Luo revealed to local media on the 28th that his 18-month-old son, their first child, has depended on a specific brand of soy-based infant formula since birth. Recently, when their household supply dwindled to just half a can, he and his wife visited multiple supermarkets only to be told there was no stock. Official channels also showed the formula as unavailable.

The Luo couple then found a seller on an e-commerce platform offering a “discounted two-can pack” of the same milk formula, with a promise of delivery within two days. Without suspicion, Mr. Luo paid the full amount and placed the order—only to discover the next day upon delivery that the package was suspiciously light. When opened, it contained only one cup of instant noodles. Although the delivery invoice listed two cans of formula, the actual contents were entirely different.

“It was truly baffling and laughable,” Mr. Luo said, adding that he did not contact the seller but instead immediately applied for a refund through the platform. According to 8world News reporters, the product in question has since been taken down, and major supermarket sites still show the formula as out of stock.

Fortunately, after visiting more than ten supermarkets, Mr. Luo finally purchased one can of formula for emergencies. The e-commerce platform has now promised to send someone to retrieve the wrongly delivered noodles, and the refund process is ongoing.

Mr. Luo shared his experience on social media to remind the public to stay vigilant when shopping online and called on supermarkets to restock as soon as possible to prevent other parents from facing similar predicaments.
