The tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong, which resulted in 168 deaths, has seen 1,032 insurance claims completed—accounting for 85% of all claims—with a payout amount totaling HK$510 million (RM257 million).

According to comprehensive reports from Hong Kong media, the Insurance Authority, a statutory body, announced on the 3rd that following the fire, the Authority worked in full coordination with insurance companies to provide assistance to affected individuals and monitor the progress of claims. To date, 1,032 cases (accounting for 85% of the total) have been completed, including general insurance claims and life insurance claims.

This fire broke out on November 26, 2025, with 7 out of 8 buildings in Wang Fuk Court set ablaze, causing 168 deaths, making it one of Hong Kong’s deadliest fires in nearly a century.

After the fire, the Hong Kong government set up an aid fund and accepted donations from the public to provide financial support to affected residents and cover their living expenses. According to figures from the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, a total of 1,700 households at Wang Fuk Court have received assistance.

On the 3rd, the Insurance Authority issued a press release reporting on the progress of insurance claims for Wang Fuk Court residents. Of “general insurance” claims, there are a total of 1,032 cases, of which 84%—a combined 863 cases—have been completed, involving around HK$450 million (RM227 million); for “life insurance” claims, there are a total of 188 cases, 90% of which—169 cases—have been completed, involving about HK$60 million (RM30.24 million).

Executive Director of the Insurance Authority Stephen Cheung pointed out that the Authority has learned that the majority of claims were successfully resolved based on the principle of fair customer treatment. The remaining cases require on-site inspections and damage assessments, and the Authority will continue to work closely with the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers to follow up.
