On the 4th, a US court sentenced Laus to life imprisonment for attempting to assassinate current US President Trump.

Federal District Court Judge Cannon stated: “It is clear that you acted with premeditation and planned to take a life.”

In court, Laus, wearing handcuffs and a prison uniform, gave a rambling speech, but did not mention the details of the case itself.

After the verdict, Laus’s defense attorney Ross told the media he intends to appeal on behalf of his client.

According to the prosecution, on September 15, 2024, less than two months before the US presidential election, Laus brought a firearm and hid in the bushes of a golf course in Florida, attempting to assassinate Trump, then the Republican presidential candidate.
Before he could act, Laus was discovered and immediately apprehended.
Investigations revealed that Laus lay in wait outside the golf course for nearly 10 hours but was spotted by US Secret Service agents before he could fire, and was promptly arrested. At the scene, an assault rifle, two bags containing metal plates similar to those used in bulletproof vests, and a camera aimed at the golf course were found.

In September last year, Laus was found guilty on five charges by a jury. In addition to being convicted of attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, Laus was also convicted on three counts of illegal possession of firearms and one count of assaulting a federal officer.

In court, Laus denied having any intention to kill Trump and expressed his willingness to receive psychological treatment in prison.
