Despite repeated attempts by the Trump administration to restrict student visas and funding for Harvard University, the Ivy League school still saw a record number of international students enrolled for this academic year.

Data released by the university last Friday show that the proportion of foreign students admitted for fall 2025 inched up to 28%, reaching 6,749 students. According to Harvard data, this is the highest number recorded since at least 2002.

The absolute number of international students increased by about 50, a rise of less than 1%.

The Harvard University spokesperson declined to comment on the enrollment data.

Despite tensions between China and the United States on issues such as tariffs and technology, the number of Chinese students enrolled at Harvard still grew by 4.5%. Chinese students remain the largest international student group at the school. Enrollment of Korean students grew by 8.7%, while student numbers from countries such as India, the United Kingdom, and Canada remained steady or saw a slight decline.
