Military Expert: China Uses Electronic Jamming Facilities for the First Time to Drive Away Dutch Warship

Chinese military experts have analyzed that when a Dutch naval vessel sailed in the South China Sea last month, China used electronic jamming facilities for the first time to expel the Dutch warship, representing a significant upgrade compared to previous actions.

On Saturday (June 6), during the "Military Time" program broadcast on China Central Television News, military commentator Du Wenlong analyzed, "This expulsion operation is a significant upgrade compared to previous actions." By actively employing electronic jamming, the other party's communication lines, data links, and radar systems would become blind and deaf, so its course and operations would be greatly affected, and both the commander and crew onboard would be in an extremely fearful state.

On May 27, the Dutch Navy frigate HNLMS De Ruyter navigated waters around the Xisha (Paracel) Islands. The PLA Southern Theater Command dispatched several Type 056A and 054A missile frigates to track, monitor, and drive away the Dutch vessel. During the operation, China's 631 and 626 warships performed close-in moves to expel the Dutch ship; ship 553 issued radio warnings to the Dutch NH-90 shipborne helicopter. In addition, the PLA dispatched fighter jets equipped with PL-10 short-range air-to-air missiles for airborne alert patrols.

This Dutch naval vessel departed from the Netherlands in mid-April this year, embarking on a five-month-long "Pacific Archer" far-sea deployment mission, with the aim of promoting freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region. De Ruyter had just completed a friendly port visit to Manila, the capital of the Philippines, and conducted joint exercises with Philippine forces.

According to the Philippine News Agency, subsequently this warship will also participate in the 2026 Rim of the Pacific military exercises, to be held from June 24 to July 31 in and around the Hawaiian Islands.

Zhang Jun-she criticized that on its way from the Philippines to the Hawaiian Islands, the De Ruyter deliberately detoured through the Xisha Islands to carry out provocative actions, blatantly infringing upon China's sovereignty. He claimed that the ship and its shipborne helicopter illegally entered Chinese territorial waters and airspace, with clear intentions of reconnaissance and probing.
