A fatal incident involving senior university staff occurred at Chongqing University of Technology in China. An associate professor, allegedly due to disputes over professional title evaluation and personnel issues, attacked and killed the vice president with a knife. Police have detained the 58-year-old associate professor surnamed Wang for criminal investigation. Preliminary findings point to internal conflicts among colleagues. The event has sparked public attention regarding the internal management and personnel systems of Chinese universities.

The Banan District Branch of the Chongqing Public Security Bureau reported that the suspect has been taken into criminal custody and the case is under further investigation.

According to Chinese media reports and viral online posts, the incident took place early in the morning. Footage circulating online shows Wang, after committing the attack, remaining at the scene with blood-stained hands, emotionally exclaiming that he was 'acting on behalf of heaven and eliminating evil for the people', and accusing the deceased of 'causing many students to develop depression'.

A nearby woman, suspected to be a family member, broke down in tears, claiming her husband had long been bullied.

Although the police statement only described the case as a 'workplace dispute', the incident has triggered heated discussions on social media.

The Banan District Branch of the Chongqing Public Security Bureau released a report stating that at around 6 a.m. on June 5, a criminal case occurred in a residential community in Huaxi Subdistrict, Banan District. The criminal suspect, Wang (male, 58), due to workplace conflict, stabbed his colleague Liao (male, 60), resulting in death.

Several informed online users revealed that Wang was allegedly unable to secure a promotion to full professor for a long time and felt targeted during university evaluations and the allocation of resources, regarding Liao Linqing as the main obstacle. There are rumors that Wang was set to retire next month and had long felt oppressed, leading to resentment and ultimately, the attack on Liao as he left for work. Currently, Chongqing University of Technology has remained low-key and has yet to issue an official response on the incident. Police have called on the public not to believe or spread unverified rumors before investigation results are released.
