Barbie Hsu's Last Wish: 'Want to Go Home' – Cardiac Arrest on the Way to Airport

Published at Feb 04, 2026 11:38 am
Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu (Xu Xiyuan) has been gone for one year. The Korean program “The Secret of Celebrities’ Life and Death” recently aired a special episode, presenting for the first time a chronological reconstruction of her final days. The program reported that during Barbie Hsu’s trip to Japan, she developed a sudden high fever and her condition deteriorated rapidly. This made her anxious to find treatment back in Taiwan. Sadly, she suffered cardiac arrest on the way to the airport, and after 14 hours of emergency treatment, was ultimately pronounced dead. Details disclosed once again stirred public attention and grief.

The program stated that on January 29, 2025, Barbie Hsu traveled to Japan with her family. Shortly after arrival, she developed a high fever and body aches. Based on previous experiences, she believed keeping her body warm would alleviate symptoms, so she chose to rest at the hotel and attempted to relieve discomfort by soaking in hot springs. However, according to the program’s analysis, this decision — since she already had a history of heart problems — sharply increased blood vessel pressure in a short time, becoming a key factor in the deterioration of her illness.

As symptoms worsened, Barbie Hsu was rushed to a local emergency room. Tests confirmed rapidly worsening pneumonia with risk of complications. The medical team advised transferring her to a larger hospital with better facilities. Nevertheless, facing unfamiliar surroundings and the anxiety of a long hospital stay, Barbie repeatedly told her family she “wanted to go home,” hoping she could return to Taiwan for further care. After weighing the risks, the family urgently booked plane tickets for February 2 and arranged her discharge.

Unexpectedly, tragedy struck on the day of their return. The program reconstructed the events of the afternoon of February 2, 2025, when Barbie Hsu suddenly lost consciousness in the car en route to the airport and went into cardiac arrest. Emergency services were alerted and rushed to the scene, taking her immediately to the nearest hospital for resuscitation; the crisis left her family in utter shock.

The program revealed that the medical team performed continuous CPR and intensive treatment for 14 hours, but showed no significant improvement. Barbie never regained consciousness and was ultimately pronounced dead. After the broadcast, many viewers lamented how rapidly her illness progressed. Even after one year, many still cannot accept Barbie Hsu’s death, and her last wish of “wanting to go home” still brings tears to countless fans.

Xiao S, Mavis Fan, and Aya Tearfully Sing 'Sisters' Gathering'

On the evening of the 3rd, Xiao S (Xu Xidi) posted a video of the memorial ceremony to IG, showing the former “ASOS Sisters” members — Xiao S, Aya and Mavis Fan — singing their classic song “Sisters' Gathering” in front of the statue. Once a cheerful melody, the song sounded especially poignant in the drizzle, and the three choked up and paused several times as they sang, making many viewers break down in tears.

“Sisters' Gathering,” composed and written by Xiao S herself, was included in the 2001 album “Divas.” The lyrics vividly depict the profound and lasting friendship between Barbie Hsu, Xiao S, Aya, and Mavis Fan. What was once a lively song sung together by the sisters, is now missing its central figure. As the three sang, though they tried to keep the tune upbeat, when they reached the lyric “We still have to continue even when we are old,” their voices trembled and they were clearly overcome with emotion remembering their departed friend.
