KUCHING, Sept 11: Three men reportedly managed to escape after their car plunged into the river beneath Satok Bridge late yesterday afternoon.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Petra Jaya received the emergency call at 6.17pm and promptly dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene near Kubah Ria.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the car partially submerged in the river.

Fortunately, the three victims were reportedly safe, with one of them having been transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance before the Bomba team arrived.

Bomba personnel were unable to obtain any information about the victims.

According to a live stream by Sarawak Edition, several members of the public who happened to be in the area immediately jumped into the river.

Using a combination of physical force and a water hose found on the riverbank, they formed a human chain to pull the car closer to the riverbank while it was still floating and had not drifted further away from the riverbank.

The young rescuers, aged between 25 and 44, told Sarawak Edition that the river remained calm throughout the operation. They said the victims were seated inside the vehicle and appeared semi-alert and panicked. The rescuers later broke the car window and safely helped the men out.

The Bomba team did not conduct a rescue operation.
