BETONG, Sept 11: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) has allocated RM1.3 million to supply essential medical equipment to 26 rural clinics across Sarawak, reinforcing its commitment to improving healthcare access for communities in remote areas.

As part of this initiative, PETRONAS donated RM50,000 worth of basic medical equipment to Nanga Tiga Health Clinic in Betong under its “Driving Lives” programme yesterday.
In a TVS news report, PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Norazibah Md Rabu said Nanga Tiga Health Clinic is among 12 selected clinics to receive support in 2025.

“PETRONAS, together with our partner SABATI, believes that health is the cornerstone of a thriving community. This project began nearly two years ago at Nanga Mujau Health Clinic, and today we are proud to extend our support to Nanga Tiga.

“Each handover is more than a symbolic gesture; it reflects our commitment that rural communities will not be left behind,” she said in her speech during the handover ceremony at Nanga Tiga Health Clinic.

The donated medical equipment includes intubation sets, vital sign monitors, oxygen cylinders, wheelchairs, and cardiograms. PETRONAS also provided office equipment to enhance clinic operations, along with non-medical items such as tables, chairs, cabinets, solar lamps, computer sets, LCD projectors, and portable speakers.

“As a company committed to community development, PETRONAS is grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Even small initiatives today can transform lives for the better,” Norazibah added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas praised PETRONAS’ contribution as a key step in strengthening healthcare services in rural areas.

“This clinic is vital for local residents as their first point of medical care, serving around 20 to 30 patients daily. Improving its facilities is essential, and PETRONAS’ support is highly significant. We hope this will further enhance the quality of service,” he said when officiating the handover ceremony.

Uggah also welcomed continued collaboration between PETRONAS and the Sarawak government to enhance healthcare infrastructure and implement additional community initiatives, including education and health awareness programmes.

“This initiative aligns with the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which emphasises equitable and high-quality healthcare access for all Sarawakians, regardless of location,” he added.

To date, PETRONAS has contributed over RM750,000 worth of medical and non-medical equipment to 15 other rural clinics, including those in Nanga Mujau, Santubong, Sadong Jaya, Batang Ai, Sundar, Nanga Medamit, Balingian, Daro, Sebangan, Tanjung Manis, Machan, Nanga Tau, Sebauh, Kapit, and Long Banga.
