SIBU，21 May: The Sibu Parliamentary Constituency Service Centre will organise a subsidy programme this Saturday (May 24) at Wang Da General Store here, offering six hundred (600) subsidised food packages to benefit the local community in the Teku area.
Sibu Member of Parliament, Oscar Ling Chai Yew, announced on Tuesday that each food package will be sold at RM30, after a 32 per cent discount from the original price of RM45.90.
The packages will be available on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis, while stocks last.
“This is the first time the subsidy event is being held at Wang Da General Store in Teku, and we hope to attract residents from the surrounding area,” he said.
To avoid overcrowding and traffic congestion, Ling urged the public not to queue too early in the morning, assuring that the 600 available packages should accommodate many families.
Each food package includes ten kilogrammes of Vietnamese white rice, one pack of instant noodles (five small packs), and thirty eggs.
He added that the food items will not be sold separately and are available only as a complete set.
To benefit young families with newborns, each coupon can also be used to purchase one pack of milk powder priced above RM20, with a RM5 rebate provided.
“Members of the public must register in advance to obtain a coupon from the organiser. The coupon can then be used for in-store purchases.
“Each household is limited to one set, and payment must be made in cash. A small gift will also be given to purchasers during the event hours, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am,” he explained.
Ling noted that this monthly welfare initiative, organised by his service centre, is aimed at easing the costs of living under the MADANI (civil and compassionate) government.
“These events are held in various areas to bring services closer to the people and their daily lives,” he said.
