A Tanzania-registered container ship sank about 6 kilometers off Batam Island, but fortunately all crew members were rescued.
Lianhe Zaobao reported that on the 6th, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore issued a statement that the Tanzania-registered container ship GOLDEN STAR 1 sank at around 10:30 pm on Friday (the 5th) about 6 kilometers from Batam Island. The nine crew members on board were rescued by the relevant Indonesian authorities.
The Maritime Authority has issued a navigational notice, advising vessels to exercise caution when navigating in the area and to report to the authorities if floating containers are spotted.
Authorities stated that maritime traffic in the Strait of Malacca and the Singapore Strait has not been affected, and there have been no reports of oil pollution in Singapore waters. The authorities have notified the relevant Indonesian agencies and are monitoring the situation.
