The United Nations reported that the earthquake in Myanmar destroyed many buildings, leaving at least 2.5 million tons of rubble to be cleared.
According to AFP, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) issued a statement on the 14th indicating that this massive amount of rubble would require approximately 125,000 truckloads for transportation.
On March 28, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar, resulting in over 3,600 deaths. The UNDP noted that cities severely affected such as Mandalay and Sagaing have been nearly leveled, and over 60,000 people are forced to live in temporary shelters.
In a statement, UNDP Myanmar Representative Mitra warned that affected residents "are too afraid to return home. Local transportation is obstructed, and the water supply system is paralyzed."
Based on UNDP analysis, approximately 1.6 million buildings are located in the hardest-hit areas of the earthquake, and "many of these buildings were not designed to withstand a strong earthquake."
The report emphasizes that more than 10,000 residential and public facilities may have been severely damaged or destroyed.
