Woman Accuses Sister-in-law of Bigamy in Thailand—The Two Homes Are Only 19km Apart

A woman claims that after her sister-in-law married her brother, she secretly married another man in Thailand. During the day, she would go to her second husband's home, while at night she returned to be with her brother. The two homes were only 19 kilometers apart.

According to 'Kosmo!', Nur, a 35-year-old woman from Terengganu who identified herself as such, together with two police officers and some villagers, raided the 'second husband's' residence in Batu 11, Tanah Merah, Kelantan, on December 6.

Nur said that her sister-in-law, while still legally married to her brother, married a man from Johor in Terengganu.

“When I entered the house with the police and villagers, I found a man I didn't recognize inside.”

“That man told us that my sister-in-law was his wife. I was extremely shocked when I heard this and immediately contacted my brother to inform him.”

Nur revealed that the man claimed he and the sister-in-law were already married at the Songkhla Provincial Religious Affairs Office in Thailand on November 5 last year.

Nur added, according to her understanding, her brother and sister-in-law had never divorced and were still living as husband and wife.

Nur also said, from what she knew, the sister-in-law would go to the man’s house when her brother was not home. During the day, she stayed at her second husband's house, and at night, she returned to her brother.

“My brother's home and the place said to be her second husband's are only 19 kilometers apart. If this had not been uncovered, my family and I would definitely have continued to be deceived, and my sister-in-law’s behavior is making a mockery of Islamic law.”

Nur also revealed that a week after she raided the man's home, her sister-in-law even reported to the police, falsely accusing her of disturbing her life.

“That woman still maintains a tough attitude, refusing to move out of my brother's house.”

She added that she has reported the matter to the Tanah Merah Religious Department, but no action has been taken so far. She believes this is no longer a personal issue, as it now concerns religious sanctity.
