Hong Kong Security Chief Encourages Police Officers, Cites Xi Jinping’s Early Years Farming and Carrying Manure

Hong Kong Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung, at the Hong Kong Police College passing out parade, used the arduous experiences of Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping during his youth in Liangjiahe village, Yan’an, as an example to encourage officers to "seek out hardship" proactively, instead of "passively enduring hardship."

According to comprehensive reports from the Hong Kong government press release and online media "Hong Kong 01," the Hong Kong Police College held its passing out parade on Saturday (31st), with 15 probationary inspectors and 248 police recruits participating.

In his speech, Chris Tang said that although times and criminal tactics are constantly changing, the police force’s mission, loyalty, determination to uphold the rule of law, and commitment to serving society remain unchanged.

He pointed out that becoming a competent police officer requires three key qualities: indestructible "iron bones," a compassionate "benevolent heart," and perceptive "wise eyes." He also noted that the suppression by hostile forces and anti-China, destabilizing elements would not stop, and officers must stay vigilant and faithfully perform their duties.

Chris Tang also cited Xi Jinping’s seven years working in Liangjiahe, noting that before turning 16, Xi had already gone through various tough labors such as farming, hauling coal, and carrying manure. Using this as an example, he encouraged police officers to "seek out hardship," rather than "passively endure hardship."

Speaking of "benevolent heart," he mentioned officers who, in a fire at Hong Fuk Court in Tai Po, dug out a body with their bare hands to keep it intact, demonstrating respect for life and empathy for suffering—qualities the police force treasures.
