(Kota Samarahan, 24th) The police are currently pursuing two suspects believed to be involved in a gang robbery case in the Taman Merlin area. An elderly couple was suddenly robbed in their home this morning, turning an otherwise peaceful morning into a terrifying ordeal.
The incident occurred at about 11:15am this morning at a residence on Jalan Sin Hin. At the time, the elderly couple was inside their house when the unlocked front door was suddenly opened by strangers. Two men dressed entirely in black, wearing gloves and masks, then broke into the house.
Kota Samarahan police acting chief, Deputy Superintendent Barry William, stated that one of the suspects was armed with a hammer and acted aggressively toward the male victim. A minor scuffle ensued, during which the female victim was also pushed to the ground.

“Police are investigating the case under Section 395 (Gang Robbery) and Section 397 (Armed Gang Robbery) of the Penal Code,” he stated in a press release.
He added that the 88-year-old male victim lodged a police report at 1:34pm on the same day.
He said the suspects are believed to have made away with several items, including 5,000 ringgit in cash, 500 US dollars (equivalent in ringgit), a Casio watch, a ZTE mobile phone, and several pieces of gold jewelry.
“The stolen gold jewelry includes rings, necklaces, and pendants, with total losses estimated at about 14,000 ringgit.”
He said that as of now, no arrests have been made and none of the stolen items have been recovered.
“Initial investigations also revealed that the house did not have CCTV installed, which has made it more difficult for police to trace the suspects.”
He noted that police have recorded statements from the victims and have sought assistance from the Sarawak Police Headquarters’ Criminal Forensics and Technical Unit to conduct further investigations.
The police urge anyone with information related to the case to contact investigating officer Watson Junga at 013-3388282 to assist with investigations.
