Threatened His Sister with a Parang, Police Arrest Brother and Seize Homemade Gun and Ammunition

(Miri, 24th) An expatriate woman was threatened by her own brother with a parang at home. After receiving the report, police swiftly took action, successfully arresting the suspect and seizing a parang, a homemade hunting rifle, and ammunition.

Miri District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Lee Bing Chiang confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department received the report at 1:44 pm on the 22nd of this month. The 35-year-old female complainant stated that her 37-year-old expatriate brother threatened her life with a knife at their home in the Niah Ulu Suai area.

Based on intelligence, police raided a wooden hut located near an oil palm plantation in the Suai area, arrested the suspect on the spot, and seized a parang, a homemade hunting rifle, and 6 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect has been remanded for four days until the 27th of this month to assist in the investigation. Police urine test results showed the suspect was positive for drugs.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code (criminal intimidation) and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960. If convicted, the maximum penalty is 7 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
