Chinese influencer “Xiaomi Youyou” had 12,000 followers on Xiaohongshu. Recently, she passed away due to ovarian cancer at the age of 40, causing related keywords to trend online. Looking back at her journey from the diagnosis to treatment of the disease, she once stated that she paid a terrible price due to delaying medical treatment and making wrong treatment choices, which deeply saddened her fans.
Last October, Xiaomi Youyou shared that she seldom got sick and tended to avoid trouble. Ten years ago, a health check revealed a cyst on her left ovary, about 4cm in size. When she went to the hospital, doctors suggested surgery, but fearing the costs and not wanting to trouble her family to accompany her, she refused the operation. After delaying treatment for more than a decade, she found that the cyst kept growing. By last March, she felt a hard lump in her lower abdomen. An ultrasound revealed a 16cm cyst—so big even the doctor was shocked when he saw it. After surgery, it was confirmed that she had endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer.
After the operation, it was discovered that the cancer had metastasized. Her doctor revealed that the lymph nodes next to her abdominal aorta might not have been fully removed during surgery. With deep regret, Xiaomi Youyou said, “I can truly feel that my life is entering the countdown! I really regret not choosing a better hospital for surgery at first and missing the best treatment window.” She also commented, “Looking back at my life, I’ve always considered others first, always unwilling to spend money on myself. Due to a closed social circle and lack of broad perspective, I never really enjoyed life, nor cherished myself—which ultimately led to this tragedy. I have paid a painful price as a result.”
Five days ago, she wrote, “Last night after an enema, my intestines perforated when I went to the bathroom. I will be leaving tonight. Thank you all for your company.” Since then, there have been no updates, and it is assumed she has passed away.
