(Bangkok, 26th) – The monsoon trough is bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to the northern and eastern regions of Thailand, creating a risk of flooding in mountainous and low-lying areas.
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning: the monsoon trough is currently located over northern and northeastern Thailand, while a moderately strong southwest monsoon continues to affect the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
On Thursday, heavy showers are expected in local areas of northern Thailand, and some parts of the east may experience extremely heavy rainfall. Residents in the affected areas should be alert for possible flash floods, river flooding, and landslides, especially in foothill and low-lying regions.
At sea, the moderate winds in the northern Andaman Sea will result in waves reaching up to 2 meters, and more than 2 meters during thunderstorms. In the southern Andaman Sea and the northern Gulf of Thailand, wave heights will range from 1 to 2 meters, and over 2 meters during thunderstorms.
The Meteorological Department advises all vessels navigating in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand to proceed with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms.
