In Arizona, USA, 38-year-old man Schuertz left his 2-year-old daughter Parker alone in the car for more than 3 hours in 2024, resulting in her death from heatstroke due to high temperatures. On the 22nd, the father pleaded guilty in court, admitting to second-degree murder.
Prosecutors stated he may face 20 to 30 years in prison without parole, with sentencing expected on November 21.
According to the Daily Mail, on the day of the incident, temperatures reached 32°C. After driving his 2023 Acura back to his home in Marana, Arizona, Schuertz left his daughter in the car to nap, keeping the air conditioning running at the time. Schuertz then went inside to play video games, drink beer, and watch pornography, spending over three hours this way, which caused the car to automatically shut off and the air conditioning to turn off.
When paramedics arrived, the temperature inside the car had reached 42.7°C, and Parker had already died from severe heatstroke.
