Hamas 'Surprised' by US Envoy's Accusations, Hopes to Continue Ceasefire Talks

Hamas issued a statement on the 25th expressing that it was "surprised" by US Middle East envoy Wittkof's "negative remarks" criticizing Hamas regarding Gaza ceasefire talks. Hamas stated it is eager to reach a ceasefire agreement with Israel to end the Israeli military's aggression and alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza.

The statement said that Hamas has demonstrated a responsible and flexible attitude during the ceasefire negotiations, and that mediators have welcomed Hamas's "constructive and positive position." Hamas "looks forward to continuing the negotiations and engaging with all parties in ways that help overcome obstacles and lead towards a permanent ceasefire agreement."

On the 24th, Hamas said it had submitted its response, including opinions from several Palestinian factions including itself, to the mediators regarding the ceasefire proposal.

US and Israel Recall Their Negotiators

On the 24th, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office issued a statement saying that, in response to Hamas's reply to the Gaza ceasefire proposal that morning, Israel has decided to recall its negotiation team from Doha, Qatar.

The Prime Minister's Office statement pointed out that the negotiation team was called back to Israel for further consultations, and expressed appreciation to the mediators—Qatar, Egypt, and Wittkof—for their efforts to achieve a breakthrough in the talks.

Additionally, Wittkof posted on social media accusing Hamas of being "selfish," stating that its latest response "clearly demonstrates a lack of willingness to reach a Gaza ceasefire."

He said the US side will consider "alternative options" to secure the release of the hostages.

He also announced the recall of US negotiators involved in the talks.
