US President Trump stated on the 4th that he had a roughly 75-minute conversation with Russian President Putin on the same day, during which they discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Iran nuclear issue.
Trump mentioned on social media that he talked with Putin about Ukraine's attack on Russian strategic bombers and the ongoing "various mutual attacks" between Russia and Ukraine. Putin "very resolutely" expressed that he would respond to the attack on the Russian airport.
Trump stated, "It was a good conversation, but it was not one that could immediately bring about peace."
He said that he and Putin also discussed the Iran nuclear issue. Iran must "make a decision soon" regarding nuclear weapons.
He believes that he and Putin share the same opinion on the issue that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons. Putin expressed his willingness to engage in discussions with Iran, "possibly helping to bring a quick resolution."
Additionally, Russian Presidential Assistant Ushakov stated that the two leaders agreed to continue engagements on the Ukraine issue during the call.
Ushakov noted that the presidents discussed in detail the recent negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, Turkey, and described these negotiations as "useful," agreeing to continue contacts on the Ukraine issue.
He said that the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky and the draft memorandum between Russia and Ukraine were not mentioned during this call.
He pointed out that Putin mentioned the targeting of Russian civilian facilities by Ukraine during the Russia-Ukraine negotiations, and Trump indicated that the US was not previously aware of Ukraine's plans to attack the Russian airport.
It is known that this is the fourth call between the US and Russian presidents this year. The last call between the two was on May 19.
