US President Trump stated on the 12th that any country engaging in business with Iran will face a 25% tariff when conducting any business with the United States.
He wrote on social media that this is a “final” decision and will take effect “immediately.”
However, Trump did not specify who would be affected by the new measure.
Because the US has long imposed strict sanctions on Iran, with no business dealings or formal diplomatic relations, Washington is unable to effectively pressure Iran directly through tariffs.
According to data from Trading Economics, Iran’s main trading partners are China, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Iraq.
